Context
This course is designed to prepare experienced audit program managers and first- and second-party auditors to meet the latest requirements of IATF 16949:2016 and customer-specific requirements of FCA, Ford Motor Co., and General Motors Co. This exclusive AIAG training program is the supplier version of the official IATF 16949:2016 third-party auditor certification course.Ā A final examination is included at the end of the course.
In accordance with internal and supplier auditor competency requirements defined in IATF 16949 Section 7.2.3 and 7.2.4, participants are encouraged to complete the AIAG Core Tools Self-Assessment (CTSA) to assess proficiency in the core tools, prior to attending auditor training.
Note:Ā Successful completion of this course/exam does not qualify you to conduct third-party audits.
Objectives
- Identify linkages to quality management principles.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and apply the automotive process approach to auditing, including risk-based thinking.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the requirement changes from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015 in an automotive context.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the requirement changes from ISO/TS 16949:2009 to IATF 16949:2016.
- Identify the requirements applicable to an IATF 16949:2016 first- and second-party auditor.
- Identify linkages between IATF 16949:2016 requirements and Customer Specific Requirements, including how to audit the applicable CSRs.
- Identify linkages between IATF 16949:2016 requirements and the Core Tools, including how to audit applicable core tool requirements related to the scope of the audit.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Rules 6th Edition applicable to the first- and second-party audit process.
- Apply auditing skills according to ISO 19011 for audit program managers.
- Apply the concept of risk-based thinking in the audit process with emphasis on second-party QMS audits.

- Current audit program managers seeking an in-depth review of Rules 6th and second-party auditing, aligned with third-party auditor development process.
Prerequisites

Practical knowledge of core tools, specific customer requirements and audit experience.
Recommended:
The training and/or examination assumes that the individual has practical knowledge and experience related to the subject. Although there is no mandatory verification by the training administrator, the absence of the required knowledge and experience in this area of competence may have a negative impact on training attendance and final grading.
In accordance with the competence requirements for internal auditors and suppliers defined in sections 7.2.3 and 7.2.4 of IATF 16949, participants are encouraged to complete the AIAG Core Tools Self-Assessment (CTSA) to assess their mastery of automotive quality tools and methods prior to attending the auditor training course. Participation in the training can be maximised if the individual arrives with practical knowledge and experience related to the subject.
Pedagogy
Two elements are involved in the success of this training:
- Continuous assessment of participants’ attitudes, auditing ability, performance as team members in the role play and communication skills.
- A written examination covering the content of IATF 16949: 2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949: 2016.
The minimum score required to pass the exam is 70%. If the candidate does not reach this score, he/she may, depending on his/her score:
- be admitted to a re-take exam (score > or = 60%).
- be admitted to a re-enrolment in the course (score < 60%).
Evaluation mode
A written examination that covers the content of IATF 16949:2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949:2016. Seventy-five percent of the examination grade is based on questions that require essay responses that test comprehension of the audit process and the application of IATF 16949:2016. The remainder of the examination grade is based on multiple choice, true/false or short-answer questions.

The final examination assesses the following competency areas (as defined in IATF clause 7.2.3): 7.2.3a, 7.2.3b, 7.2.3c, 7.2.3d, 7.2.3e
Individuals who successfully complete the final examination will receive: an AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Supplier Auditor Certification certificate for first- and second-party assessments.
